08 August 2018Tod! premieres with Cromarty Youth Opera

The first performance of Tod! was presented this evening to mark the fifth anniversary of Cromarty Youth Opera which was founded in 2013 by Edward and Clare Caswell.

The new opera is based on the Beatrix Potter story The Tale of Mr Tod with words and music by Andrew Gant. The composer was asked to produce a work that would highlight the strengths of the young singers (a small number of principal singers with a larger chorus of primary-age children) and feature elements that the audience has come to expect (its participation).

The resulting story of Flopsy and Benjamin Bunny — with their large family, the dastardly Tommy Brock and Mr Tod, a dog, a pair of flappy birds`and Beatrix Potter herself — delighted the opening-night audience.

The opera will be performed again on Thursday and Friday at 7.00pm in the West Church. Entry is free, but donations may be made at the door.
