Visitors to Cromarty have two additional modes of transport other than the usual car or Stagecoach bus from Inverness.
From this weekend, the Cromarty Rose is back in service for the summer season, sailing from Cromarty to Nigg on the hour and half-hour (back from Nigg at a quarter to and a quarter past the hour). Full details of charges and facilities can be found on the ferry website.
A new half-day sightseeing tour takes the scenic route from Inverness to Beauly, along the Black Isle to Cromarty and back by open-topped Cromarty Highlander. The tour stops in Beauly, Cromarty and in Fortrose at Chanonry Point (hopefully, for a view of the Moray Firth bottlenose dolphins). Details and charges on the Scottish Tours website.
