Two challenges: progress report

Pete and Al climb Mount Kilimanjaro
19/6: Begin trek from base of Kilimanjaro through rainforest to Mti Mkubwa Camp at around 2780m.
20/6: Cross into high altitude desert plateau of Shira Caldera to Shira Camp 1 at 3505m.
21/6: Trek across Shira Plateau to camp at 4247m.
22/6: Up to 4551m and through Barranco Valley to Barranco Camp at 3972m.
23/6: Acclimatising trek up the slopes. Pete reports that it very cold and he wakes in the morning covered in ice.
24/6: Rest during afternoon before attempting summit after midnight (Uhuru Point at 5895m)
25/6: They made it! Pete said it was the hardest thing they had ever done. They are now on their way back down; Jane and Bob will join them tomorrow.

Alasdair cycles the Canadian Rockies
21/6: Leaves Canmore (near Calgary) and cycles through undulating terrain to Banff National Park — 63km
22/6: High into the Rockies to Lake Louise — 100km
23/6: Cycle along Icefields Parkway with steep climb to 2068m, descending  to Saskatchewan Crossing — 81km
24/6: Uphill towards the Sunwapta Pass at 2055m to the Columbia Icefield — 50km
25/6: Gentle, downhill terrain along Icefield Parkway, finishing in Jasper "exhausted and exhilarated" — 103km
