Cromarty gardeners revealed some hidden gems today during the annual Garden Competition. Behind a High Street facade, Mary Bowers has combined a practical kitchen-door herb garden and appealing mix of established climbers and fruit trees, colourful and fragrant shrubs and herbaceous plants in her prize-winning 'best garden'.
Jill Williams crammed a subtle mix of blue, white and lavender bedding plants into a barrel in her new hill-top garden at Cromarty Mains. Containers provide essential plant protection from winds and marauding cows until hedging becomes established.
Annie Ratcliffe's fully-blooming, colourful and scented sweet peas were the winner in the third gardening category.
Here, Mary, Jill and Annie display their winners' cups in Mary's lush back garden.
