A sad end for beached whales

Despite the best efforts of the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society, local Coast Guard and vets, two bottlenose whales stranded on the beach below Rosefarm (between Cromarty and Jemimaville) could not be saved this afternoon.

Apparently a larger animal was seen in Cromarty Harbour earlier today, but it managed to get back out to sea. These two smaller animals came closer to shore and became stranded. Efforts lasting three or four hours failed to get them to deeper waters and, sadly, they had to be put down.
