This afternoon's Produce Fair was the first event organised by the recently-formed Cromarty Allotments and Gardens Society.
Although one of the prime objectives of the new society is to find land in Cromarty suitable for allotments, those members and friends who already have space for growing fruit and vegetables brought their surplus to sell at today's Fair. Ken Dupar (right) displayed six varieties of apples from the Old Orchard, while other growers had yet more apples, giant marrows (see Jane Clunas and son Bob below), onions, potatoes, green and red tomatoes, chili peppers, kale, purple beans and physalis (Cape gooseberries).
Estelle Quick cleared out her shed of old garden tools (anyone for a flamethrower?) and sold plum cake. There was also a brisk business in green tomato chutney, jams, jellies and scones.
