Today, enterprising Cromarty 14-year old, Eilidh McCann embarks on a 75km paddle-and-carry canoe journey between Laxford Bridge in the west of Scotland to Bonar Bridge in the east. Accompanied by her father, uncle and cousin, the four-day challenge is part of Eilidh's fundraising effort to raise the £1200 needed to participate in a Fortrose Academy trip to Malawi in 2012.
The Academy, together with partner Engineers Without Boundaries UK, aims to help raise £25,000 to built a new school hall for Mulanje Community Secondary School and other projects in Malawi.
So far, Eilidh has raised £500 and hopes that sponsors for her canoe challenge will help her reach her goal. For more information about the Mulanje project, go to this website. From here, you can follow the 'Making a Donation' link. You can also sign the sponsorship forms available at the Emporium, High Street, Cromarty.
