During two weeks in April and May, Richard Kindersley (the UK's leading stone letter carver) has been working with nine apprentice stone masons to create a new, more accessible path around the Stables, Cromarty's A-listed hub for local musical and artistic events. Under his tutelage, the apprentices have been learning the traditional craft of stone letter carving with a view to increasing the pool of talent that is available in the Highlands.
Staff and Trustees of the Cromarty Arts Trust organised the project and received funding from Highland Council, Awards for All, Black Isle Development Fund, Clan Urquhart and the Cromarty Common Good Fund.
As the project nears completion on Friday, 16 pupils from Cromarty Primary School will be taking a walk up the hill to the Stables tomorrow morning (16 May) for a workshop with Richard Kindersley.
