Bobby Hogg (left in photo with his late brother Gordon), the last remaining speaker of the distinctive dialect of Cromarty's fishertown folk, died on Sunday in the Marine House, Rosemarkie. His funeral will be held on Thursday, 4 October at 1.30pm in the East Church.
In 2007 Am Baile recorded Gordon and Bobby speaking together as part of its project to create a digital archive of the history and culture of the Scottish Highlands and Islands. The Cromarty Fisherfolk Dialect booklet and the recorded audio tapes are available on the Am Baile website.
Cromarty-based David Ross, Highland correspondent for The Herald, described their remarkable legacy in an article in today's paper.
