The 'Window on the World' is a community exhibition being hosted throughout December in the tiny window of Hugh Miller’s Birthplace Cottage, the iconic thatched fisher folk cottage in Cromarty. From 1–31 December (except Christmas and Boxing Day) the window display changes every day and from the street passers-by can look in and see a setting from a local group or organisation from Cromarty and beyond.
Each window setting is removed from the window after a day and re-created upstairs in the thatched cottage in preparation for Saturday afternoons (8, 15 & 22 December) when the cottage will be open for people to catch up with window displays they have missed, or see again a favourite setting. The museum shop will be open too so that visitors can take the opportunity to do a spot of Cromarty Christmas shopping.
You can follow the daily window changes by viewing the window in person or by reading the notes prepared by Property Manager Dr Alix Powers-Jones on our Notices/Events page.
