Today, diggers removed the top layer of soil in preparation for the start of the Cromarty Medieval Burgh Community Archaeological dig next Saturday. The area uncovered is slightly larger than that excavated last summer, and signs of wall stones are already visible. The marquee 'headquarters' will be erected on Thursday.
Twenty-two would-be amateur archaeologists attended the two weekend training sessions last month. They will join team leaders and returning volunteers for the 2014 project. Anyone interested is encouraged to come along and observe progress between 12 July–3 August. Also, this summer there will be a special programme of hands-on activities for chllden.
