Rehearsals for the children's chorus began today for this summer's Cromarty Youth Opera's production of 'Cinderella'. Singers with principal parts have been practicing for several weeks, stage construction is well under way, and musicians are scheduled to arrive next week to rehearse with the singers.
The pantomime opera in two acts by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies follows the familiar tale with modern touches: Cinderella is an au pair who arrives by train, and the three ugly sisters 'get their just deserts in marriage to the appalling leaders of the armed forces'. A small band (composed of recorders, strings and a varied percussion section) accompanies the singing and dancing. The opera is conducted by Edward Caswell and directed by Will Kerley.
'Cinderella' is presented in the West Church on 13, 14, 15 August at 7.00pm. Admission is free, but tickets are available from Cromarty Arts Trust, Ardyne, Bank Street (01381 600 354) and The Emporium, High Street (01381 600 551).
