Superfast broadband a step closer

This week KN Network Services has been installing the 'green boxes' or street cabinets next to the Victoria Park bus shelter, part of the process of bringing superfast fibre optic broadband to Cromarty. Those who have been frustrated with the variable (and slow) speeds of the current copper system will welcome the faster and more reliable fibre performance soon to be available.

The Digital Scotland Broadband Initiative expects to see "around 95 per cent of premises in Scotland having access to fibre broadband infrastructure by the end of 2017." Funding partners include the Scottish Government, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, the UK Government through Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK), local authorities, the European Development Fund and BT, which is investing £126m in the programme.
