Although Cromarty broadband customers anticipate the arrival of high-speed fibre optic broadband to the town, they are less enthusiastic about the the four, large green FTTC street cabinets recently erected in Allen Square and beside the Victoria Park bus shelter.
Investigation by Black Isle Cllr Craig Fraser revealed that the boxes had been installed before planning permission had been issued. Planning applications for the two sites have now been withdrawn and more suitable locations are being sought. For further information see North Star article.
Other towns have resorted to painting cabinets to better match their surroundings or covered them with custom vinyl wraps to help camouflage the boxes (see photo).
