A welcome departure

The fire-hit cargo vessel MV Parida left the Cromarty Firth this afternoon along with its cargo of nuclear waste. An engine fire on Tuesday evening left the ship drifting towards the Beatrice oil platform which had to be evacuated.

The Parida was towed safely to Invergordon where it underwent repairs before resuming its journey to Antwerp with waste from the Dounreay nuclear power plant.
