The death was announced last week of Catriona Gillies, formerly of Mizpah, High Street, Cromarty. Until she moved to the Cathay Nursing Home in Forres (near her sister Hannah) several years ago, Catriona lived her entire life at the heart of Cromarty.
Following the family tradition, she served as Cromarty sub postmistress for many years and knew (or knew of) nearly everyone in the town. She was an acclaimed baker, and she and her sister Florence ran a popular tea shop at the corner of Church Street and Forsyth Place. She was a Sunday School teacher and Session Clerk at the West Church, President of the Cromarty SWRI and the Woman's Guild. She was presented with a Gold Badge honouring her many years of service to the RNLI as Chairman of the Cromarty Lifeboat Guild.
Her funeral will be held in the West Church on Friday, 23 January at 11.00am, thereafter to Cromarty Wester Churchyard.
